What Does it Mean to be 'Market Ready'?

Updated: Jul 17, 2020

There are plenty of misconceptions about what it means for your house to be ready for the Market. Preparing your home for sale is no easy feat, especially if you've let the place go over the last few years. These tips will bring your house back to life, ready for your first Open Home.

First impressions are lasting impressions

The first thing buyers will see in the external of the house; the garden, fences, window, gutters, driveway, mail box. These should all be freshly painted, tidied and clean ready to wow your potential buyers.

The Five Senses

The emotions a buyer will have when walking through your home are all based on the five senses: sight, sounds, smell, touch and taste. It'll help if you can stimulate all the senses within your home.

- Brighten it up with some fresh fruit and flowers to give colour to the eye and fragrance to the nose.

- Buyers will be opening doors and flicking light switches so make sure these are all working smoothly.

- It's crucial that the home smells clean and clear. Give it a deep clean and a dust, then open up the doors and windows to allow the breeze through.

- Have some peaceful music on in the background to break the silence.

- If you're game, throw some cookies or a roast in the oven just prior to the open home.

De-clutter

Something that everyone needs to do more often. Sort your belongings into 'keep', 'throw' and 'donate' buckets. Get rid of anything that hasn't been used in the past 12 months, that's just collecting dust or might look unsightly to buyers.

Again, buyers will be looking in cupboards so don't just shove it away and hope for the best. Trust me, you'll feel much better for it!

Add some greenery

Snip some leaves off from outside and put them in a vase as a centrepiece. Bring some pot plants inside and sit the base in a woven basket. This will give some life and colour to your home.
