Form and function are just as important as design and style within a home. Especially when selling, you want it to appear as spacious and functional as possible. There are some clever techniques you can adopt to use space effectively.
Limited pieces of furniture per room
A room can feel cluttered, messy and small when there are too many pieces of furniture within the space. When styling your property for sale, declutter and keep it as minimalist as possible. Check out Our List of Essential Furniture Items Per Room.
Centre your furniture
You might think that pushing your furniture up again the walls will create more space in the middle. However, what really make a room feel more spacious and functional is being able to walk freely in and around the room.
Choose furniture based on the size of the room
If the dining area is limited for space, avoid a six seater rectangular table. Opt for a four seater circular table to allow more room around the table.
Effective storage options
If your home is short on storage, there are plenty of options to reduce clutter. Some beds have drawers or storage compartments. Ottomans can be great for storing blankets and linen. Console tables can look great while storing bits and pieces in the cupboards and drawers underneath. Shelves in the garage or garden shed can be great for items that you don't use very often like decorations, outdoor gear and seasonal clothing. Alternatively for a lot of storage, hire a self-storage unit.
Light colours

Light colours will make a room feel bigger, brighter and more spacious. Dark colours bring a room in. Furniture in lighter tones can help to keep a room feeling light. It can also depend how you paint the walls which will have a major effect.
