Upcycling Furniture

Updated: Aug 5

It's addictive and it can be done in a weekend.

We all have furniture pieces that are looking a bit worse for wear, drive past something half-decent on the side of the road or see something that's just in need of some TLC.

So here are some tips for a weekend-worthy furniture restoration.

1. Go down to your local Op Shop and scavenge through the old, unloved pieces of furniture. They might not look like much but after you're done, it'll be your new favourite item. A small coffee table, chair or a dresser would be perfect!

2. You'll need some low-sheen paint in the colour of your choice (can't go wrong with white but get creative!), a paint brush, sand paper and a drop-sheet.

3. Pick a day on the weekend. Put down the drop-sheet and prepare the piece of furniture by giving it a good sand down.

4. Make sure your paint is well-mixed. Start with a thin coat all over and you're half way there! Wait a couple of hours and apply another coat.

5. You're all set! Finish with some quirky knobs, home decor or a pot plant.
