Things To Consider When DIY'ing Your Home

Do It Yourself. Sometimes easier said than done. But it's possible and a lot of home owners renovate their houses themselves with great success! Here are a few things to consider first.

Do you have the time and energy?

There's nothing worse than a reno dragging on far too long with the house unfinished. It's important to know whether you'll actually have enough time and the energy to dedicate into DIY'ing. If you're working a 9-5 job and only have time after work and on weekends, you're going to burn yourself out. But, if you have a good few days throughout the week for a consistent amount of time, you should be right! It'll also take a fair bit of research and 'how to's' on your part to know all the right techniques and materials you'll need.

Are you willing for things to look rough?

Without having a professional do the job, you risk things looking slightly shabby or rough because they're done without using the correct techniques.

If you're not a perfectionist and don't mind seeing some paint lines or gaps here and there, then DIY might be for you. If not, then hiring the right tradie is the safest bet.

Timeframe & Budget

These two things often go way over when not planned out properly. Without the correct management of your project, your reno could end up going way over time and way over budget. If you're a checklist and spreadsheet kind of person, that's perfect!

Interior Design & Decorating

It's easy to choose your tiles, paint and flooring separately. But do they look good together? Does it work well with the amount of natural and artificial lighting in that space? This can be a make or break for the finished look and feel of your renos.
