Your lawn and garden are often the first things that buyers will notice when arriving at your open home. It's a good indication on how you've taken care of the rest of your property. If the garden is overgrown and out of control, it's not going to send a very good message nor will it seem appealing.
Establish the task at hand
If you're willing to put in the hours and the hard work, make sure you set aside a couple of weekends and a budget to get it done. If not, look at hiring a local gardener to do the weeding, pruning, edging, mowing and mulching.
Hiring an expert
In some cases, you might need to hire someone to do a job that you just can't do. If you're on acreage and don't have a ride on mower, hire someone. If you have tall overhanging trees or palms, an arborist can trim them for you. If you have too many weeds to tackle, a gardener can either pull them out or spray them. If you have a few bare patches in the garden, a landscaper can tell you what plants you need and put them in for you.
Trim it all back
An overgrown garden looks like maintenance. Trim the hedges. Create space between bushes. Remove dead and odd, overhanging branches. Hack back at shrubs, bushes and palms. Allow sunlight through by cutting down or trimming scrawny trees. Make sure pathways are clear and clean.
The opposite - your garden is bare
Landscaping and greenery makes a huge difference. Don't leave it looking bare and baron. Buyers will see this as another job they'd have to do. If you have the time, go to your local nursery or Bunnings and grab some low maintenance plants. If not, get your landscaper to take care of it.
Finish it off
Don't skimp on the important finishes. Buyers like to know whether the gardens have irrigation as well as proper drainage. Also a layer of mulch throughout will make a world of difference!! This is really make it stand out. Add any features such as stepping stone, decorative boulders or garden lighting down a pathway. Remove items like ornaments, rubbish and toys and put all tools and hoses away.
