It's incredibly easy and cheap to make your home feel more coastal by creating this DIY shell vase.
There are plenty of ways to make it your own by adding different colours, textures and materials. Give it a go and tag us in your creations @creative_renovation_studio.
1. Go to your local discount store and find the craft section. If they're any good, they'll have an isle that looks like this:
2. Choose a glass vase whether you're a round or a square person.

3. Pick a variety of shells, sand, pebbles and any other decorations you like such as starfish or coral. You could also turn your vase into a candle holder so find one that fit and we can style around it.
4. You can start with a layer of sand in the bottom of the vase. Then start by placing the shells on top. If you're using a candle, make sure you place this in before the shells and build around it.
Another option is to purchase a lantern to style amongst other beachy items. We picked this one up for just $10 because it had a chip in it. But turn it around and no one will notice!
From Kmart we purchased the shell on the stand for $10 and the rectangular sea-grass tray for $7.50. The timber anchor we found for around $10 in Robina Town Centre. The blue pot is from Bunnings for $12.48. The white coral piece is from Spotlight for just $13.

You could also trail some fairy lights throughout the shells for a soft lighting effect.
Use tinted glass to add some more colour.
Wrap sisal twisted rope or cotton sash cord around the base of your vase and hot glue it in place.
Or purchase a shell-shaped planter and put a vibrant, leafy plant in it. Like this pot from Kmart for just $7.50 at the moment:
There are plenty of DIY ways to add more coastal decor into your home. We encourage you to give it a go!
We'll be using these crafty ideas for this year's coastal Christmas theme. Stay tuned to see what we create!
