With Christmas only 15 days away, they don't call it the silly season for no reason. Especially this year, everyone's going all out with decorations and presents.
If you're hosting Christmas this year, you want it to appear as though you have your sh*t together when the guests arrive. So these are your essentials to help make your Christmas day a success.
Adequate Cooling
Christmas day is going to be a scorcher this summer! Even if you don't have air-conditioning, there are still some alternatives.
- Pedestal fans
- Vertical air-conditioner
- Open up the doors and windows (just be prepared for the flies with netted food covers!)
- A blow up pool in the back yard
- Put the sprinkler on for the kids to cool down under
- Plenty of ice cold refreshments
- Try to avoid steaming hot food or having the oven on all day
- Stay hydrated with lots of cold water available
- If outdoors, an umbrella, beach tent or gazebo is a must
Plenty of Plates
For both serving food on and eating off of, you'll need plenty of dishes in different shapes and sizes. Try to plan your meals for the day while considering what you already have. Otherwise, here are some affordable options to pick up some more:
- Kmart, Big W, Target
- Second hand stores
- Myer clearance items
- $2 shops
Sufficient Seating
If you're having your extended family around, you'll likely need more chairs than what you've already got. Your guests will want to take a seat to chat rather than standing and mingling all day. Anything you don't need once the day is over, you can either re-sell or donate back.
- Ask your guests to BYO chair
- Pick up some cheap extras on Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree
- A couple of cheap stools
- Second hand stores
- Cheap furniture stores
Festive Foods
There's always plenty of food on Christmas day. But if you're making the majority of it, it's a great idea to leave your guests stunned with some exotic, festive dishes. Try some of these for taste:
- Prawn, mango & avocado salad
- Strawberry & haloumi salad
- Tiramisu truffle balls
- Caramel glazed ham
- Mango chilli salad dressing
- Pink gin cheesecake slice
All in all, Christmas is a fantastic day to spend with family and friends. There's no right or wrong way to host the day but a good old list can't help. Do a little planning prior to shops closing or selling out and you can't go wrong!
MERRY CHRISTMAS from Creative Renovation Studio!!
